The accused pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at the judicial center on the end of the week

An individual who laced treats with sedative and gave them to children at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel said objects including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild notified the police about his suspicions.

She said the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative stated the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member contacted the law enforcement again.

She explained the defendant then played the "candy game" in a area of five children.
