AC Shadows Introduces Unexpected Attack on Titan Event for Holiday Season
In a surprising crossover event that defies conventional predictions, the game developer has announced an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including no-cost bonus story content for Shadows players.
Peculiar Mission Disclosed
According to the authorized statement, "A mysterious encounter leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where hints of forbidden rituals and fearsome metamorphoses echo through the obscurity." The storyline introduces a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who assigns the pair with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her ally from a secret cult.
The mission concentrates on "peculiar trials and a monstrous foe" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Iconic Places and Transformations
The teaser highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This important location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser concludes with a striking scene showing a character, probably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Exclusive Items and Extra Features
Players who accomplish the quest will receive an unique katana alongside multiple items concealed throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:
- Titan-inspired costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Exclusive implements
- Survey Corps vehicle
Third Free Story Update
This release also adds the game's third free story addition, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive skills: Naoe introduces a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Past Japanese Animation Partnerships
This represents hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime series. The series earlier featured a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that clearly nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
